Cruising to a Successful Completion on Baker Grit
The largest cruise ship terminal in North America is under construction in Florida, and Baker鈥檚 Southeast Region helped build its foundation. Last summer, Baker began work on Berths 8&9 for the MSC Cruise Terminal under general contractor Fincantieri Infrastructure. The scope of work included installation of concrete bulkhead seawall, concrete passenger boarding bridge runways, manatee grates, and 34 cruise ship bollards.
The project team excelled at taking on complex challenges, such as site dewatering. The project鈥檚 location, high water table, and porous limestone rock required extreme precision in planning and implementing dewatering techniques.
The use of Baker鈥檚 daily work plan program, mission task analysis procedures, building information modeling, and an Safety, Schedule, Quality, and Productivity Board kept all stakeholders informed and on track. As a result, BCCI safely delivered high-quality work within an aggressive timeframe and without disruption to the port鈥檚 operations.
The project team鈥檚 focus on building safer, smarter, faster, and better earned an Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award from ABC Florida East Coast.
